Enhancing Judicial Independence, Accountability, and Selection for the State Court Judiciary: A Program for Reform

On April 8, 2008, Sally Rider, Director of the Rehnquist Center, participated in a conference on judicial independence and accountability the Center co-sponsored at Fordham University Law School. Rider served as the moderator for a discussion with Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Justice Stephen Breyer. The Justices spoke about the need for more public education regarding the importance of a fair, impartial, and independent judiciary. This was the fourth in a series of regional conferences organized by the Rehnquist Center on judicial independence, accountability, and state judicial selection and retention.
